Mickey Hart has produced in excess of 30 albums of World Music.  Many he recorded himself, ranging from Baba Olantunji to the Latvian Women’s Choir to the Gyuto Monks.  Others he curated from the archives of the Library of Congress.  He has recently handed over 25 of these albums to be maintained and distributed by the Smithsonian Institute’s Folkways division.

As an introduction to the albums of Babatunde Olatunji, Carlos Santana and Mickey discussed Baba’s influence on their music, and on modern music in general.

I shot and edited this 12 minute piece, which includes some footage from Baba Olatunji’s 1985 live set to open the Grateful Dead’s New Year’s Eve show at the Oakland Coliseum.
